WordPress is a Content Management System (CMS) that allows for easy updating of web content. The open source platform has allowed developers the leverage to extend the performance of the platform. With WordPress, the limit to what can be created has been extended indefinitely, and everyday constant support and fixes are released, making it a no-brainer in the website arena.
The extension of the WordPress functionality is only possible through plugins. Plugins are piece of programs that extends the functionality of an application – in this case – WordPress. There are a lot of plugins that perform different task – ranging from design, security, eCommerce etc. that can be installed to your WordPress website. Some are free, others paid. This is up to the developers behind the product.
